Tiscali Folds..... Sort of.

Well my long awaited response from Tiscali has arrived (after sending a reminder letter see here.).

For those not abreast of the situation the records of this dispute can be found here, here, and here. I will at some point set up an index page for the Tiscali records.

Tiscali's response is shown here;

Dear Mr Tasker

Thank you for your letter regarding your Tiscali account.

We have carried out an investigation into the issues you raised and have submitted a request to our Finanace and Administration team to write off charges for the period 11/09/07 to 31/10/07. Please allow up to 28 days for resolution of this request.

This will leave an outstanding balance on your account of £6.69.

Please accept our apologies for the delay and inconvenience this has caused.

If you require further information please do not hesitate to contact our custoemr care team on 08707449966 option 4. Lines are open 8am to midnight 7 days a week. Calls are charged at national rate.

Alternatively you can contact us through our website at www.tiscali.co.uk.

Yours sincerely

Well as you can imagine reading that it dawned they had folded, but then I hit the "This will leave an outstanding balance....". Now we see clearly in my previous letter that the outstanding balance was £35.40, and the amount we were arguing about was £35.98 so where has this £6.69 come from? My only guess so far as tot he origin of this amount is that it may be interest accrued during the time that this dispute has been going on. It is possible that they are charging me for the 9 days connectivity I could have had had I not moved house, in which case it will be a valid charge. I sent them this letter to find out (though I was nice and didn't charge them £20)

Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to you today in response to a letter addressed to myself dated 12/02/2007. Firstly I would like to thank the staff at Tiscali's customer services for looking into the issues I have raised, however there is still one matter to be settled. In a previous communication I received from Tiscali it was stated that Tiscali had received a request from HSBC to refund the amount of £35.98 under the Direct Debit Indemnity scheme, and that whilst Tiscali had complied it was at the time felt that these were valid charges, it was clearly stated in the aforementioned communication that the outstanding balance on my account was £35.40. My last communication from Tiscali stated that although the matter had now been fully investigated with the evidence that I had supplied, there will be an outstanding balance of £6.69. This leads me to believe that this outstanding amount can only have been interest accrued whilst this matter has been discussed. If this is indeed the case then Tiscali should also be writing this charge off.

Should there be another reason for this charge, then please inform me of the reasons in writing, however at this stage I can see no valid reason as to why this sum has been appended to my account.

I would also like to take this opportunity to request that Tiscali confirms to me in writing that it did not pass my details to any credit reference agencies, and in the case that it did, I wish to be informed in writing of which ones and when.

Thank you again for your time.

Yours sincerely

Ben Tasker
