The promised letter turned up
today, dated the 22nd November 2007. It is in fact a formal demand for
payment. In other words A&L are stamping their feet and saying
"Iwanit" but doing it formally! Will definitely have to phone them on
monday to make sure everything is going as it should, oh and I need a
new card & pin as they never sent me a new one!

Dear Mr Tasker Account Number ********* Formal Demand for Payment I have not received a response to my letter of the 26th October 2007 asking for repayment of the debt on your account. Your account is currently overdrawn by 145.50 and we now have no option but to withdraw your banking facilities. Overdraft fees will be added and shown on your next statement. This will also include any fees you have previously been told about which have not yet debited your account. You must not make any further transactions against your account. If you do, it will constitute a criminal offence under the Theft Act 1968, under which we may have to take appropriate action. Your account card(s) and cheque book should be cut in half and returned to me immediately. Any standing orders or Direct Debits have now been cancelled. Please make a full and immediate repayment of this account. To repay the money you owe, you can pay cash at any Post Office or Alliance & Leicester branch. Alternatively you can send a cheque drawn against another account direct to me. Please write your account number on the back of any cheques sent. If immediate and full payment is not received by 28 November 2007, further steps will be taken to recover the debt and a fee of 15.00 will be raised on your account towards administration costs. We will notfiy a credit reference bureau of the default status of your account in 28 days' time. This could seriously affect your ability to obtain credit elsewhere in the future. Your sincerely * ****** ******* Customer Services The thing I find really amazing about this letter is that on the 9th they sent me a letter giving me ten days to return an income/expense ladder. The Ninth was a friday so they could not expect me to receive it until the 12th at least (I actually received it on the Tuesday -13th) so ten days from that date is the 23rd. Before the timescale was even up they sent their next letter, and withdrew my account. It's unbelievable! Incidentally I went over the relevant statements, they should leave my account in credit if they refund all the charges. It'll be interesting to see how much they refund, as my original measure of Nine pounds Sixty Seven was incorrect. I had put money in a few weeks before that so should be well in credit. |
