I first contacted Ipswich Borough Council with regards to Resident Permit Parking shortly after we moved into our new apartment. We were fully aware that the road onto which our building faces is largely a Z3 Permit Zone, however we were completely unaware that the Council has a policy of one permit per household. This is completely understandable where cars are concerned, however a motorcycle uses approximately 1/3 of the space an average car absorbs. I felt that the council should be able to offer motorcyclists an exception to their policy, especially as motorcycles are more frequently targtted by the younger criminals.
I believe that it is well within the councils power to offer a seperate motorcycle permit, of which each household could possess a maximum of 2.
I should make it clear here that both my partner and I have motorcycles, and that I am not requesting a second permit purely because I have a second vehicle and don't want to get rid of it. We both require transport, and quite frankly I will always prefer a motorcycle to a car anyway.
