Tiscali Rears Its Ugly Head Again

For those who do not know of my previous experiences with Tiscali please read This Page.

Well I received this letter slightly before christmas, someone at my old address was kind enough to tell me it was there.

Dear Mr Tasker,

We have received a request from HSBC to refund a Direct Debit claimed from your account on 04/10/2006 for £35.98.

Under the terms of the Direct Debit guarantee we will comply with the request and a refund has been arranged.

However, this amount is now outstanding on your Tiscali account and is payable immediately.

To ensure your Tiscali Service is not suspended due to non-payment, please contact us to arrange full payment within 7 days. Should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us on 0870 744 9966

Thank you for your help int his matter

Yours Sincerely

Tiscali UK Billing Team

So they want to reclaim the money that they took from me when they had no right to do so? Hmm I think not, so they received this reply

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have received a letter at my old address dated 12 Dec 06 with the reference UI86QVK727, Firstly I would like to point out to you that I am no longer a customer, and secondly that I have notified Tiscali of my change of address no less that 5 times now.
I have contacted Tiscali previously about the Direct Debits in question, and received a reply dated 05/12/2006 from Stuart Marsh on the Tiscali Billing and Customer Care Team. I have to admit I did not reply to him as although there were minor inaccuracies in his letter the matter was settled. I am writing to you now for several reasons, the first of which being to correct these inaccuracies. In his letter (Case number 1431563) Mr Marsh states that he can find no record of any calls regarding change of address before the 12th of October. This is true, but I did clearly state in my previous letter that I used the online form and received an email notification of receipt. I still have said email in my archives. However he concluded that the Finance team had investigated (and presumably closed the matter). I then received the letter to which I am replying stating that you have received a request from HSBC to refund a Direct Debit taken on 04/10/2006. Tiscali was notified of this in my previous letter, and Mr Marsh confirmed that this was so.
I have already outlined the reasons in my previous letter and will not be doing so in much detail today. Tiscali billed me when it had no right to do so, I had ceased to be a customer and your service to my home had been discontinued from my home by yourselves at my request.
I have been very patient in this matter despite having had to visit the bank and ask that the standard overdraft charges get overturned. These charges were incurred because Tiscali billed me when I was no longer a customer and took me past my overdraft limit. I am requesting again that you remove my personal details from your system, I will receive up to two more letters from yourselves after which I will be passing this matter onto both Ofcom and the Data Protection Registrar. The consequences of which are very serious as I am sure you are aware.
I have played Tiscali's game for too many months now, and I can honestly say I have never regretted using a companies service more than I do now. If the general public only knew just how terrible Tiscali's service is, the company would not exist any more.

I will never be using Tiscali's service again

Your sincerely

Ben Tasker

We will have to wait a while until I get a response, especially as the incompentent idiots will probably send the letter to the wrong address anyway.
The moral of the story is DO NOT go with Tiscali as an ISP, and if you already have, as soon as you close your account cancel that Direct Debit!

An Interesting afterthough for you, Tiscali claim that the amount was 35.98 on 04/10/2006 in actual fact it was 17.99 on two seperate occassions, but then this is the company who asked if I had any paper in my router when I asked if they blocked any ports!

Perhaps I should open a Tiscali horror gallery.
