Another Day in Britain
23 07 07 - 21:41The roads are at least a little emptier at the moment, and people do seem to be realising that they are mortal, so speeding down the dual carriageway at 120mph isn't the best of ideas. It is human nature to become aware of both your, and others mortality when anything out of the ordinary happens, I just hope that the memory lingers for a bit longer than it usually does.
The news says that Gloucestershire will soon be without running water, and already I am hearing stories of people buying all the supermarkets stock of bottled water, then selling it on for £5 a bottle. It may be human nature to realise you are mortal, but it is the most human thing in the world to be a heartless, moneygrubbing bastard! There will always be someone who takes advantage, I just hope that the warnings prove fruitless, and the water supply continues. At least then these unscrupulous people will find themselves lumped with a huge supply of water that they don't want or need.
I also read today that they found some Child Porn on Chris Langhams Laptop. For those that don't know, Mr Langham is both a writer and a comedian. The pictures were undoubtedly there, as were the authorisation details for a "premium online service." All this has already been shown in court, however Mr Langham claims that these materials were only present "as research for the BBC television series Help."
Regardless of whether this is true or not (and I hope that it is the truth), Mr Langham should not have possessed these materials, he certainly should not have paid to access them. Reardless of his intentions, paying to access these materials only puts money in the pockets of the very people who create and spread this filth. His ownership may or may not be the result of his perversion, but they should not have been there at all. He has written and starred in some great comedies in his time, but none of this can excuse the fact that he has given funding (and so indirectly encouragement) to professional paedophiles. I am also dubious as to how these materials could be used as research for a TV series, however I cannot rule out that they could be. I believe that the other charges of a serious sexual offence against a girl aged under 18 are very telling as to his level of guilt in this matter, but I cannot judge him based on that alone. All I know is that whatever his motivation, he should never have provided encouragement for the purveyors of paedophillic filth, viewing it is bad enough, but paying for it? Thos actions alone may have put someone elses children at risk.
Galloway was ordered out of the house of commons today. Personally I find his the most entertaining of the political speaches. It's not right that he attacks the integrity of other MP's, and quite frankly I don't know how the man got into the house of commons, but he is entertaining.
Production of the $100 Laptop has finally begun, I still think is one of the most worthwhile initiatives in the IT industry. It also reminds me of some of the competition that seems to have failed since. Anyone remember MS saying that the laptop would be too bug? and that a smart phone would be better? If I remember correctly, it was far more expensive and you needed to buy all the peripherals seperately. Then there was the slur by MSNBC, suggesting that it would only be of use to keep the Africans warm in their mudhuts. Nope, sadly the prejudiced idiot who wrote that was never fired.
Perhaps my highlight of the week however, has been reading about the Shoplifting Seagull. Those Doritos are damn addictive!
