Turkish Hacker catches online Peadophiles

CNET is reporting that a Turkish 'hacker' by the name of Unknown1096 planted a Sub7 Trojan onto a Usenet group called alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.pre-teen. He then trolled the newsgroup for at least a year, and 'caught' two consumers of child porn. He emailed the FBI with the relevant details and the two men were convicted, one plead Guilty whilst the other tried to fight the case on the basis of in-admissable evidence. If a US citizen had 'hacked' the PC and obtained the evidence, this illegal act would have rendered the evidence in-admissable and there would have been no evidence to support a conviction. However 106 was not a US citizen (or at least he claims to be Turkish) so the evidence was allowed as he is not governed by US law.
This has of course sparked some controversy as the evidence was obtained through illegal methods, a few people on the CNET talkback board feel that it is a perversion of justice, and that the evidence should have been thrown out. Some have also suggested that 1096 should have been persued and prosecuted for computer misuse.

Personally I feel that it is about time that someone actually did something to catch these child predators, they are sick perverted people and they need to be stopped, the methodology used to obtain this evidence was questionable, there is no denying however for these people to have downloaded the virus from a newsgroup called alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.pre-teen they must have had some intention that was not benine. You don't use a newsgroup that is called pre-teen erotica unless you are trying to obtain or exchange some. Both these guys got what they deserve, and hopefully more will get caught.

There are a few peculiarities in the Law in the UK (admittedly the above case was in the US) that should be corrected. If you crash your car whilst drink driving the insurance company will refuse to pay out, because by breaking the law you were breaking your agreement with them. The Law should work in the same way, if you break into someone's house and they hit you with a frying pan, there is no way on earth the law should protect you from that, you stepped outside the law which should mean you forsake its protection whilst outside of it.
Hopefully there will be a reform, but in this increasingly politically correct world I cannot really see it happening.
No matter the methodology, if we can get more child predators of the net and off the street it can only be a good thing!
