I am writing this having repeatedly contacted the ebay seller usbdepot about an item I purchased from them. I received an email from them acknowleding payment, and informing me that the item had been despatched. However I was not sent a tracking number for the parcel. I emailed them to ask for this, as it stands to reason not everyone thinks to include this. Having emailed them no less than 4 times I have received no reply, not even a "sorry we didn't make a note of the number." Given that the item is being sent from Hong Kong I would find even that a little suscpicious. The item was advertised as having high quality voice recording, and I have emailed them to request more information about this, I did receive a reply to that email. The response that the high quality recording was through an in-built Microphone. As any audio technician will tell you, an in built microphone is not capable of high quality recording - at least where MP3 players are concerned - I suspect that what they meant is that the compression used on the recording is "High Quality' i.e. it records to either an uncompressed ofrmat like AIFF or uses high bit-rate MP3 compression (which is not what I would call High Quality). This does not affect my wanting the item, as 1) I have paid for it and 2) the ebook functionality of the device is of more interest to me than even its ability to play music. The seller also has a policy whereby if you leave them negative feedback then they will leave the same for you, this is at best unethical and at worst a breach of ebays usage policy. As can be seen here they do have a lot of positive feedback, however the negative feedback they have been left is distinctly disturbing. Also the amount of negative feedback they have been left (Which at time of writing is 58) is slightly worrying. This is a small percentage of the amount of feedback they have, and one could argue that it is inevitable, but from the way they have treated me I have to admit I have become highly suspect of them. My advice to anyone wanting to buy from this seller, is think very carefully about it first, my item still has not arrived and I am seriously begining to wonder if it has even been despatched - despite them emailing me to say it had - even if the item arrives I will not be buying from them again. I have looked into usbdepot and they are in fact a company (as opposed to an individual seller) whose website can be found here. As a company their conduct is even more reprehensible, customer satisfaction is paramount in ensuring that your business remains viable. To Usbdepot/Direct Global Trading inc. I say this, deal with the issues outlined both above and in the emails I have sent you, and I will edit or remove this page (Depending on how well you deal with the issues) but I will never be buying from you again. To anyone who is encountering problems with this seller, I would recommend doing the following. Send an email to sales@usbdepot.net and CC it to sales@directgt.com outlining your issues (and of course including your ebay user ID and the Item ID) and inform them that if the matter is not dealt with then you will put the issue before ebay. That is what I have done, and if I do not receive a response then I will be contacting ebay. Similarly if your item arrives and you are not happy, email them as they have requested you do. If after 7 days you have not received a response - whether sufficiently remedying the situation or not - then leave negative feedback. If they then leave you negative feedback contact ebay wexplaining the problem and including a copy of every email you have sent usbdepot. For now there is very little I can do except await a response, and when the item arrives I will be checking it very carefully to ensure that the item is 1) as described 2) works properly 3) is manufactured to a reasonable standard if not then it will be returned and a refund demanded. Shifty_ben 15:38 13/04/2006 An Update for those interested. The product arrived about a week after the original post. This week it died, the play button just kinda fizzled out. So I have bought another MP3 player from Argos, much better quality, and I have noticed the audio is also of better quality, though this could be due to using different headphones. I will not be buying from usbdepot again! Shifty_ben - 20/05/2006 01:55 |
